“You look so beautiful today, Mom.” My 9-year-old daughter said these words to me day after day following the amputation of my foot. One evening as the family gathered around the dinner table to yet another delicious meal brought by a friend, I rolled into the room in my wheelchair and looked across the kitchen at my children. I was wearing pajamas, no makeup, and my hair most certainly looked like a bird’s nest. In a confident display of kindness and courage, my daughter said, “Mama, you look … [Read more...] about The Day I Realized I Am Not My Body

4 Ways to Keep Moving Forward
When I was a little girl, my Papa often took me to the railroad tracks to lay pennies on the rails. We would return a few days later to find our flattened pennies scattered by passing trains. I loved walking the rails and imagining how many cross ties must lie between where I stood and the length of track stretched for miles before me. I would hop from one cross tie to the next until I eventually found myself much farther down the track than I realized I had traveled. Today, I visualize … [Read more...] about 4 Ways to Keep Moving Forward
5 Life-Changing Confessions: Combating the Color-Draining Effect of Worry

Throughout the Song of Songs, the beloved is described as chosen, loved, beautiful, pursued, rescued, worthy to be adored, … [Read more...] about I’m Not Enough
Heart of Prayer
For 35 years, I prayed for my wounded foot to be miraculously healed. At 3 years of age, I lost 2/3 of my right foot in a lawn mower accident. In my teens and twenties, I went to every prayer and healing service I could find hoping the power of God would supernaturally heal my foot, restoring it to the beautiful foot I had when I was born. I hand wrote healing scriptures on slips of paper and kept them in my shoes for years, replacing them as they became thin and tattered. I desperately … [Read more...] about Heart of Prayer
Who Do You Say I Am?
“If Jesus is who He said He is, we can trust him with everything—even the most broken areas of our lives.” –Dr. Timothy Keller, Jesus The King Jesus, how can I ever trust you again? Seven years ago today I gave birth to our precious son Elijah Marc. The day a child is born is usually the most wonderful day in a mother's life; for me, March 4, 2009 was the mostdevastating day of my life. My son never took a breath. I was crushed by the reality that I'd never wipe away his tears, … [Read more...] about Who Do You Say I Am?
